9 Things To Do In Kuala Lumpur

There is so much more to Kuala Lumpur than shopping malls. There is so much to see, to explore, and so much great food! This list consists of my favorite things to do in Kuala Lumpur. As always, I am not one to hop from sight to sight, I like to take it all in.

1. Wander around KL Forest Eco Park

The KL Forest Eco park is located in the heart of the city. The park has great trails and an awesome canopy walkway. The park is open every day and there is no entry fee. Roaming around KL Forest Eco Park was definitely one of my favorite things to do in Kuala Lumpur!

2. Eat at a temple

My favorite place to eat vegan food in Kuala Lumpur is the Dharma Realm Guan Yin Sagely Monastery. This temple offers a huge buffet with a great variety of food. It’s open Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Check out my vegan guide to Kuala Lumpur for more!

3. Relax at KLCC Park

This park was designed as a green space surrounding the Petronas Twin Towers and other nearby buildings. The park has a swimming pool for kids, fountains, and lots of trees. It’s a great place to relax and unwind.

4. Marvel at the Petronas Towers

The Petronas towers are the tallest twin towers in the world and ranked as the tallest building in the world from 1998 to 2004. The towers were surrounded by tourists trying to get the best selfie and local vendors selling phone lenses. We sat at the tower’s base, reading up on its history while enjoying the sun.

5. Grab fruits and vegetables at Chow Kit Market

Visiting Chow Kit Market was one of my highlights. The market is divided into different sections: clothing, household goods, fruit and vegetables, and meat and fish. I could’ve spent hours upon hours browsing. There is so much fruit! If you enjoy shopping for fruit and vegetables, make sure to go to Chow Kit Market. I loved this market so much, I wrote an entire post about it here.

6. Explore the Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are one of the top tourist attractions in Malaysia. Our Airbnb host was so kind and took as on a trip to the caves. We started out with breakfast at an Indian spot and saw heaps of monkeys! The caves are located right outside Kuala Lumpur and you can access them via public transportation. The limestone hill houses three major caves, a handful of smaller ones and temples. It’s a really popular Hindu shrine that’s dedicated to lord Murugan. The annual Thaipusam festival attracts literally millions of visitors, every single year.

7. Take it all in at Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park

This is one of my favorite parks ever. It was built in 1880, which makes it the oldest park in Kuala Lumpur! The park is right in the city center and is popular among locals and tourists alike. Our Airbnb host hosted a free yoga session for us in the park at around 7:00 AM and it was beautiful. The park is incredibly well maintained and it’s such a pleasure to explore it. If you are a fan of parks, I highly recommend you to visit it!

8. Take advantage of the free buses

I stayed in Kuala Lumpur for a week and only on day four did I discover the free buses. GO KL City Buses are free buses that are operating around the Central Business District (CBD) of Kuala Lumpur. The buses are perfect for tourists and locals alike as they at various main attractions & business centers.

9. Visit China Town

While Petaling Street Market wasn’t really up my alley (think counterfeit goods), I really enjoyed strolling through China Town. In China Town, you’ll find the Taoist Guan Di Temple, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, small shops and a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, Water Lily Vegetarian Restaurant.
